Have a great day!
I went shopping today. And because I don’t have a great deal of money right now, I needed some cheap food. And that is where a trip to Jack Purcell Meats comes in.
Jack Purcell Meats is the northern industrial zone at 46 Pritchard Rd, Virginia (click here to see the exact location). They have some premium stuff at high prices, but this article is about the amazing bargains you can get there.
Keep reading to see the details. But don’t read on if you’re not keen on seeing a photo of half a pig’s head.
They also have a snack bar in the butchery.
Yep, $2.99 a kilo for minced steak. Obviously at that price, it’s not the leanest meat you can get, but it will still go a very long way. I got one of these 2 1/2 kilo packs.
Drool. These are the slabs of premium quality beef - you are looking at $80-$100 for most of these. Some are Jack Purcell’s own house brand, and the ones on top are from King Island Beef.
MMM…cheese and bacon burger.
Didn’t get the pig’s head. Today, that is. I’ll be getting together some recipes for brawn sometime soon, I reckon.
This is the haul (apart from the burger, which I’d already eaten):
2 kg of bacon pieces - $10.60
5 1/2 kg of thick sausages at 99 cents a kilo: $5.46
2 1/2 kg of steak mince: $7.46
If you’ve got some spare freezer space, it’s worth taking a drive up to Jack Purcell’s and stocking up on their specials. You can get their weekly specials sent to you via email if you click here.
