Brisbane’s Anzac Day March, 30 photos - Adelaide St, April 25th 2007

The Anzac Day march in Brisbane started at 10am, and the van of the march arrived at my vantage point at about 10.10am.

The first 15 minutes or so of the march are shown in this video:

And then the marchers just kept on coming.

Brisbane Traffic - Motorbike Accident On The Corner Of My Street This Morning

I walked out of my flat this morning to go to work, and saw flashing emergency lights down the end of my street, on the corner of Montpelier Rd, Cowlishaw St and Cintra Rd in Bowen Hills. Looks like a big flat-bed tow truck had hit a motorbike.

Click here to see a Google Map of the exact location.

I checked with the Police Media unit (thanks to Tom for spending 10 minutes having a proper dig through all his records for me) and the Queensland Ambulance Service media unit - there were no injuries reported and no-one was transported to hospital.

This corner is insane. Cintra Rd has a stop sign on it, but it is constantly ignored and cars fly through the corner, turning left onto Montpelier Rd. If you are coming out of Cowlishaw St you can be in real danger - I have been, twice, a few metres away from a serious accident.

For more detail, click on the pictures and you’ll be taken to the Flickr set, where you can see much larger versions.

Frankly, Brisbane traffic is insane, and it isn’t geting any better or safer.

At the Grand Central Hotel on Ann St, out the front of the station and just across from Anzac Square, radio station 4BC is putting on a free sausage sizzle. There’s coffee as well, which suits me just fine at this hour of the morning.

This is the Eternal Flame burning at the Shrine of Remembrance. It’s now just after 6am, the sky is bright, and the crowd is still lining up to look at the flame and the wreaths that people have dedicated to the memory of their relatives.
